Behind the Scenes at a Florist Photoshoot

Our Daily Flower Menu got a fresh look!

Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at a florist photoshoot? Here’s an exclusive look at our most recent shoot!

After three years, we felt it was the perfect time to refresh our Daily Flower Menu with some new photos, and we’re stoked to share them with you! We spent three months gathering data from our order history, internal surveys, and feedback from our customer reviews. Both internal requests and customer feedback highlighted that they wanted to see updated images, so we made sure our menu reflects what you love most. As your go-to San Diego florist, we’re always focused on bringing you the most stunning flowers for every occasion.

“Ultimately, we made the decision to redesign and reshoot our Daily Flower Menu to better serve our community. This is now the fourth iteration of this menu, and every time it get’s a little better!” says Native Poppy's co-owner and Vice President, Meg Blancato.

It’s so exciting to see the menu come to life with a fresh look! Our vibrant new photos truly capture the beauty and variety of our flowers, showcasing our florist's thoughtful artistry that make each arrangement and bouquet special.

Planning and Preparing for a Florist Photoshoot

Planning a photoshoot is no small feat, but planning one of this magnitude is quite the lift. We spent weeks selecting which types of flowers to order — blooms that toed the line of being readily available, on-brand, and unique!

Our floral leadership team met weekly to finalize the new flower offerings and ensure the menu met our customer’s needs. Two lead florists spent 10 hours building every piece for the shoot the day before, and six members of our team worked the shoot on set at Influence Studios with Hale Productions. All this culminates with gathering our creative crew and watching our vision unfold on set. It takes a village!

Kal and Erin on set at a Native Poppy photoshoot

"There's so much work that goes into the planning phase ahead of a photoshoot," says Erin Dollar, Native Poppy's Ecommerce Manager and Gift Buyer. "Natalie, Meg, and our floral team spend hours analyzing which flowers are best suited for our community, then I help them create a shot list for the photoshoot of all the images we need to add each product to the website. We're so lucky to have our Shop Manager and Floral Lead Kal McMahand on the set to make sure every petal is looking perfect, and our Floral Design Project Coordinator Cassie Templeman is a truly gifted stylist — she elevates every image with her styling."

We partnered with Tiffany Williams, who modeled several of our flower crowns and necklaces for the photoshoot! Positioning our flowers just right in the frame is essential, as even the smallest adjustment can highlight their true size and shape, influencing how they are viewed in our online shop. This careful attention to detail ensures that each flower arrangement looks as beautiful on screen as it does in person. We feel so fortunate to have worked with photographer Alyssa Crampton, who worked her magic as we teamed up to capture the perfect shots.

“I LOVE shoot days," Meg explains, "They’re truly some of my favorite days of the year. Especially when we have so many team members on site, and get to work with such talented professionals. It’s a big lift to get there but totally worth it.”

Marisol modeling for Native Poppy

We had a familiar face in attendance at our photoshoot! Model Marisol Gonzalez is such a kind and radiant soul. You might recognize her from a graduation campaign we shot last spring — she posed for photos in her actual cap and gown from her recent graduation. We couldn’t wait for the chance to get her in front of the camera again! Look how stunning she is in our flower crown!

"One of our beautiful models, Marisol, is my nanny! She is one of the most wonderful people I know, and is a HUGE supporter of Native Poppy as it's because of her that my husband (who also works for the company) and I can grow the company. She will even help out with little projects to prep for events when my daughter is napping. It's so special to have her represented here, because she is such a special person in my life," says Natalie Gill, founder of Native Poppy.

Even Natalie jumped in to strike a pose! Thankfully she’s got those super florist muscles to carry and hold our arrangements on and off for hours — you wouldn’t think it, but holding a large arrangement or bouquet can be heavy!!

"Photoshoot days are a bit of a workout," says Erin. "We're moving dozens of products around the set all day, definitely getting those 10,000 steps in. For this shoot, we were working under studio lighting, so the models had their work cut out for them striking a pose without spilling water from the arrangements onto the paper backdrops — but our team of pros didn't break a sweat!"

"Working with Hale Productions was a full circle moment for Native Poppy! Founder Kirk Hensler and I have known each other for over 10 years! Way before he was a photographer and way before I was a florist, I taught yoga for him at his yoga and kick boxing studio! It's pretty amazing we grew our second careers alongside each other, and was just very cool to work together to produce this level of work," says Natalie.

Updating our Flower and Gift Bundles

Two years ago, we added our first flower and gift bundles to our flower delivery menu, and they were a huge hit! During this menu redesign, we added two new bundles: the Plant Parent Bundle, and the Cozy at Home Box + Blooms filled with best selling gifts!

"We swapped our Native Poppy shopping bags out for a new design created for us by our very own Cassie (who also goes by Peanut Press) that is 100% recyclable and we're absolutely obsessed," says Meg.

Our gift bundles are perfect for anyone looking to add a little something extra to their flower order, and we’re thrilled to offer our customers a variety of options!  As a leading San Diego florist, we set ourselves apart by offering not only whimsical and unique flower arrangements but also curated gift boxes that are delivered locally to you or your recipient. It’s not just our flowers–we also provide unique, high-quality gifts that make every occasion extra special. And hint hint, we proudly offer same day flower delivery, ensuring that your flowers and gifts arrive fresh and on time for any celebration.

Our Petite Florals Got a Little More WILD!

One of the most exciting aspects of our menu is a design update to our signature Petite Wrapped Flowers and Petite Arranged Flowers.

So what changed, you ask? For this extra wild style, you’ll see more ethereal blooms and “spray” flowers with multiple bloom-heads on one stem. The updated designs incorporate more airy flowers reminiscent of a patch of wildflowers.

Just like everything we do at Native Poppy, this project and photoshoot were labors of love, not only from Natalie and Meg, but also from the incredible team of talented individuals. Our Daily Flower Menu makeover is a celebration of all of the wonderful ways we can show up in the world through the power of flowers. Whether you’re treating yourself or someone special, our menu has something for every occasion–from brightening someone’s day with birthday flowers to sending San Diego flowers for any celebration. No matter the reason, our thoughtfully created arrangements are here to make life’s moments a little more beautiful, and Share Love Through the Power of Flowers.
