Native Poppy's Flower Garden

San Diego Flower Farm Native Poppy

Locally Grown

Native Poppy grows 100 varieties of flowers in our sunny San Diego garden

Since 2018, Native Poppy has been growing many of our own flowers in our garden in east San Diego’s El Cajon neighborhood – it’s our mini urban flower farm! Using 53 raised beds built on a defunct tennis court, we’re growing beautiful blooms like Chantilly Snapdragons, Zinnias, Cosmos, and more.

Growing our own flowers helps us reduce our carbon footprint, and our garden provides a home base for bees, butterflies, and all sorts of beneficial insects. We use our garden-grown flowers in many of our floral designs – these flowers are our pride and joy.

Experience the beauty of San Diego grown flowers!

Our Garden Flower Wrap is filled exclusively with blooms grown within 10 miles of our shops.

Inside our Garden

Want to see what's blooming in our flower garden? While we aren’t able to offer in-person visits at this time, we have a tour of the Native Poppy garden on our blog with details on how we grow gorgeous flowers in So Cal… it's no easy feat in the summer!

No matter the season, it’s always exciting to see what’s growing in our flower garden. Curious about what’s being harvested right now? We post regular updates about our home-grown flowers over on Instagram, under the hashtag #NPgrows. You can also stop by one of our retail shops and look for the “We Grew These” tags on our stem bar! We’re super proud of our San Diego grown flowers – our florists can’t wait to share them with you on your next visit.

Meet our Lead Gardener

Native Poppy’s garden is tended by Margaret Roche, who heads our garden and plant program. Her years of experience with permaculture and organic farming have transformed our garden into a thriving urban flower farm, filled with flowers that thrive in our sunny climate. Margaret is leading us into an exciting new chapter as she saves seed when new genetic variations or color combinations appear in some of our garden favorites.

Wanna get to know our favorite green thumb? We have an interview with Margaret on our blog!

Our Local Partner Farms

We are proud to partner with local flower farmers in San Diego to help grow their businesses. Many of the flower farms we support are also woman-owned and operated, like Psalter Farm, Cielo Hills Flowers, and Wayward Daisy.

We believe that investing in local agriculture builds a groundswell of support for more sustainable flower farming – plus you get the freshest flowers possible, picked just a few miles away from our flower shops. Visit us to see the ever-changing varieties of locally grown blooms on our stem bar!
