Our Story

NATIVE POPPY was established in January 2015 by Natalie Gill as an opportunity to pursue her life's purpose; creating joy in the world by making art with her friends. Meghan Blancato became a partner in 2018, having worked at the first Native Poppy shop since opening day - quickly establishing herself as irreplaceable.

What started out as a solo venture in Natalie's backyard, creating arrangements for events quickly expanded into a brick and mortar flower shop making unorthodox choices like creating a "Flower Menu" and opting NOT to offer single-bloom, dozen-stem bunches, the foundation was laid to make Native Poppy one of a kind and exceptional!

The Native Poppies, as we affectionately call our team, are a group of dreamers. A band of caring, playful, and talented souls. We believe in taking care of the environment and drinking champagne, in stopping to cuddle and befriending every animal we see. We believe in singing while flowering and in always challenging ourselves and our peers to be better, all the while affirming each other for where we are today.

What drives us is our motto and our mission:

Sharing love through the power of flowers!

Not only have we had the opportunity to flower countless weddings, baby showers, and birthdays but also to offer the smallest smile in the wake of loss. For what better way to say, "I love you and I'm here," when there are no words to say? It is a beautiful, emotional and humbling gift to be able to create for people.

We want to make you beautiful flowers, for whatever the occasion - your graduation party or a Wednesday morning. We want you to experience a magical flower shop full of flowers like you've never seen before and hand-made, locally sourced gifts. We want you to become friends with our sweet staff, knowing our team is always there to brighten your day.

Native Poppy currently has two shops in San Diego! One in South Park and the other in Solana Beach. Our dream is to have Native Poppies all across the country so that wherever you are rooted, you'll be able to indulge in pretty. wild. flowers.
