Stem Friends: CHOCOLATE SUNFLOWERS

Stem Friends: CHOCOLATE SUNFLOWERS

Please give a warm welcome to this week's stem friend...

Our flower of the week is Chocolate Sunflowers! Not a lot of facts about these seasonal cuties, but we just love them for their color and their mildly sunny disposition - more subtle than their brighter cousins.

Q: What is your cocktail of choice?

A: It's gotta be a spiked hot chocolate. Give me something warm and cozy but with a little bit of edge. Keeping me toasty all autumn long.

Q: What is your favorite color palette? Bright & Cheery, Dark & Moody, or Neutral & Elegant.

A:  I find myself as an assemble cast for dark & moody but as a star in neutral & elegant.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow where would it be?

A:  I would spend a week in Colorado- where is feels like fall but the sun is always shining.

Q: Who is your girl boss inspiration?

A:  I'm Julia Child- warm and inviting but a little wacky.

Q: What is your favorite type of ice cream?

A:  Mocha almond fudge!

Q: When I'm not in Native Poppy's stem bar, you can find me...

A: Listening to a record while knitting or doing a macrame by the fire.

Stem Friends: SPIDER MUMS

Give a big ol' round of applause to our friends...

Spider Mums are in the chrysanthemum family and get their specific name from their distinct spider-leggy shape. They originated in China, and come in a plethora of colors - we're crushing big time on this burnt orange! Spider mums have a variety of meanings - if a bride carries them, they mean liveliness - if they are white, they represent purity and truth - if you're in Europe, they're associated with death - in China, they mean honor - and if you send a bouquet to your love it sends the message to "elope with me"!

Q: What is your cocktail of choice?

A: Ok... no judgement. But my guilty pleasure is definitely a Mai Tai. Sometimes you just gotta treat yo' self to some tropical love! Pro tip: turn on some beachy tunes, grab your Mai Tai, and pretend you're lounging on the beach somewhere in Tahiti-- even though you're just laying on your couch... again, no one is judging.

Q: What is your favorite color palette? Bright & Cheery, Dark & Moody, or Neutral & Elegant.

A: I think somewhere between Bright & Cheery and Neutral & Elegant. Lately, I've found myself hangin' with my fall friends in some neutral and dried arrangements and boy, oh boy, does it feel good!

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow where would it be?

A: Is that even a question?! I would obviously be in Tahiti! I mean, c'mon. Mai Tai's while lounging by those crystal clear blue waters?! What. A. Dream.

Q: Who is your girl boss inspiration?

A: Now, I know this may sound crazy... but Charlotte from Charlotte's Web. My true spider inspiration. With a name like 'Spider Mum', who else would inspire a budding star like me? Out of all of the spiders, isn't Charlotte just the nicest?!

Q: What is your favorite type of ice cream?

A: I'm more of an ice cream sandwich lover, myself. There is just something about a sweet sammie that is the perfect finish to any meal! AND it's great on the go!

Q: When I'm not in Native Poppy's stem bar, you can find me...

A: Hanging on the beaches of San Diego! Any chance I can soak up some sun, I'm there! But also, I still need water.... so please don't forget to water me! We all know how that would end..

We love this week's stem friend "berry" much! Introducing...

Snowberry is in the honeysuckle family and can grow in shrubs up to 6 feet high! It flowers with small white and lavender berries and blooms mostly from May to September. The branches of Snowberry were used to make brooms and arrow shafts in the past; the Native Americans used the fruit of Snowberry as a natural shampoo due to its foaming properties); and crushed Snowberries are used in Russia as a natural lotion. Watch out- they are toxic to ingest, but are oh so magical to look at!

Q: What is your cocktail of choice?

A: It's not necessarily a cocktail, but I'm all about a good strawberry frosé. Or, really any flavor frosé for that matter. Oh, and you bet your bottom dollar that I have one of Native Poppy's Wild Flower Club Frosé candles!!

Q: What is your favorite color palette? Bright & Cheery, Dark & Moody, or Neutral & Elegant.

A: Truly, I feel at home in every single color palette. With touches of a variety of different colors, my neutral but colorful tones can compliment even the brightest of color palettes! Bring on allll the flower friends!

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow where would it be?

A: Oooo! I think it'd be SO cool to go to Antarctica! Having the word "snow" in my name makes me want to travel to those cooler places. Especially being a warm weather bloomer, I've always wanted to see what those cool climates are like! My name isn't snowberry for nothin'!

Q: Who is your girl boss inspiration?

A: Oprah Winfrey. No doubt. Her kind heart and love for people is so inspiring! I mean, c'mon! Who doesn't love Oprah! You get a hug, you get a hug, you get a hug, evvvvveryone gets a hug!

Q: What is your favorite type of ice cream?

A: Berries n' cream... duh! Gimme allll the berries! Yum!

Q: When I'm not in Native Poppy's stem bar, you can find me...

A: I love camping!! Throw me into the forrest with some giant redwoods, and I'm a happy camper! Finding new and unique places to camp is my new favorite thing!

Please give a warm welcome to this week's stem friend...

Native Poppy Flower Shop | San Diego, CA

These Cockscomb Celosia flowers look like a rooster’s head comb, hence their common name. Cockscomb is native to South America, Africa, and parts of Asia. They are edible and often used in Nigerian cooking! Cockscomb is also known as 'wool flower' and 'brain celosia', and comes in shades of yellow, orange, pink and red. May we recommend this for all your neuroscientist friends?

Q: What is your cocktail of choice?

A: A classic mimosa! Add champagne to anything and you've got yourself a good time. Champagne alllll day!

Q: What is your favorite color palette? Bright & Cheery, Dark & Moody, or Neutral & Elegant.

A: Bright and cheery is where it's at! My colorful blooms can't be tamed and my funky nature means that I'm always ready to party. Throw me in a fun and colorful wrap or arrangement and you won't be disappointed.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow where would it be?

A: I think it'd be fun to go to Brazil! All of the people that live there seem like such fun-loving people to be around and I heard that they love to dance there. I love to bust a move from time to time!

Q: Who is your girl boss inspiration?

A: Tina Fey all the way. With her courage, humor, and grace, she truly is the life of any party! She is refined, yet quirky and not afraid to stand up for herself and others. You go, Glen Coco!
