Flooding at our Mission Valley Studio - A letter from Natalie and Meg

Flooding at Native Poppy's warehouse in January 2026

Hi Wild Flowers, it’s surreal to write to you again about yet another disaster our company is facing. On January 1st, 2026, our warehouse was damaged by flood water that breached the city’s stormwater channels that border the building. The rushing water knocked down a cement retaining wall, burst through our doors, and filled our warehouse with several feet of water, damaging our delivery vans, flowers, merchandise, electronics, and supplies.

Despite this horrific recurrence, we are grateful our company was closed for the holiday and no one on our team was hurt.

It’s shocking to have this experience just one day after we publicly celebrated the fact that we made it through 2025 “flood, crash, and catastrophe-free,” in our monthly newsletter. Natalie came back from maternity leave on December 30th – this was not how she hoped to spend her first week back with the team. The life of a small business owner is learning how to stay positive and keep believing things will work out, even when every year seems to bring its own worst-case scenario.

While we assess the damage and begin the cleanup process, we must temporarily close our Mission Valley location. Our Solana Beach and South Park stores will remain open, and deliveries will continue on our usual schedule.

How is this happening again?

You might be wondering why we stayed after this location flooded in January of 2024?

We have been actively searching (in vain) for two years to find a space that is in budget, the right size, and safe enough for our team. We are (hopefully) close to securing a new studio space. We look forward to sharing more when it’s official.

In addition, flood or natural disaster insurance policies have been unattainable due to how expensive the premiums are and the history of the property. We had hoped that we would be able to survive one more rainy season flood-free, and are devastated that this has happened again.
